About Well-Play Counseling & Wellbeing Center

Well-Play Counseling & Wellbeing Center is a female-centered healing space that frames our work through a social justice lens. Understanding that the mental health of women of color is often complicated by racial injustices, psycho-social factors, negative cultural stereotypes, and more. It is important that Well-Play Counseling & Wellbeing Center therapists be culturally competent, provide a safe holding space, and show up authentically to assist in your healing. Gabrielle “Gabby” Powell is a Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) through the California Board of Behavioral Science and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). She earned her Bachelors and Master of Arts in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach; with an emphasis in mental health. She has been serving clients in various multidisciplinary settings; including inpatient, outpatient community mental health agencies and adolescent programs.
Gabby has a background in working with minorities who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, as well as relationship conflicts. She tailors the therapeutic experience to each individual’s unique needs, strengths and circumstances. She also draws from different modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, client-centered approach, motivational interviewing, strengths-based approach and attachment theory. She utilizes an empathic approach and collaborates with clients by promoting insight, resilience, and overall well-being.
Gabby has a passion for promoting positive, equal and long-term maternal healthcare outcomes supporting women of color in areas such as fertility, family planning, pregnancy, postpartum and the numerous other maternal health challenges. She has an integrative approach to providing guidance and supporting single parents as well those parenting with partners, as they navigate through the healthcare system.
