Sebrena Thurton is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). She earned her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from California State University –San Bernardino. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University and have been serving clients in community mental health since 2016.
She is a Black, millennial therapist who’s passionate about helping clients develop a deeper connection to self while developing self-love and compassion despite the life challenges that they’ve faced. As a Black woman, she knows how difficult it may be to just be yourself. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space that allows clients to heal, increase their self-awareness as well as their understanding of the influence that their past may have had on their present.
Her therapeutic approach is integrative and includes person-centered and cognitive-behavioral therapy. She sees her clients as an equal partner; you’re in the driver seat while she’s riding shotgun (passenger). Her mission is to establish a healthy therapeutic relationship. The therapeutic relationship is something that she holds dear to her heart. In sessions, she’s warm, empathic, relatable, and direct and she truly enjoys working with individuals (adults).
Her aim is to assist in challenging and changing negative thoughts and behaviors, develop control over emotions, while assisting you in learning healthy coping tools. She may integrate Crystal Sound Bowl Healing to create a space of relaxation and peace to engage you in mindfulness practices such as breathwork and guided imagery. While gaining experience, she’s had success working with a wide range of issues: depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relational issues, and trauma just to name a few.
