About Joy Carter, LCSW

To everyone else, it appears that you have achieved success and have a wonderful life. But the beautiful life people see on the surface hides the stress and pressure you are really feeling. Your dream job is now a nightmare of exhaustion and disappointment in the career you worked so hard for. You are dealing with racist and demeaning comments from colleagues, bosses, and even customers. You work longer hours and have harder projects than your coworkers. When you ask for a break or help, you are accused of not being a “team player” and feel inadequate. Your personal life and relationships suffer from the stress you are experiencing.

You want peace in your life and to enjoy the achievements you have worked so hard for. You want a life that is nurturing and supportive, so you are content even in a society that undermines your well-being. You’re ready to be confident and happy in your career, personal life, and relationships. I can help.

The primary focus of my practice is to offer a safe space for BIPOC women seeking mental health therapy. The goal is to partner with BIPOC women to create a life that is nurturing and supportive in a world that undermines our mental well-being through revolutionary self-care, a term coined by poet and activist Audre Lorde. She states, taking time to care for yourself “…is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation…”
