About Jacquelynn Montgomery, LMFT

Hello, and welcome to my profile. I would consider it a privilege, should you choose to work with me and allow me to guide you through whatever stressors, confusion, emotional, or relational issues you may be struggling with. I have been working in mental health for 13 years in various settings with diverse populations which has molded me into a well-rounded therapist with a holistic approach to health and wellness. I have a special interest in therapeutic approaches rooted in depth psychology, Jungian psychology, liberation psychology, and cultural healing methods. More recently, I have become more focused on trauma-informed therapy and research after noticing the trends in developmental and complex trauma in many of my clients. While I am comfortable and experienced in working with most age groups, adolescents (12-18) and transitional age youth (18-26) have a special place in my heart. This is the time of major transition from childhood to adulthood, an initiation, a metamorphosis even. Additionally, I have been running my own private practice since January 2019 and make it a point to continue to serve diverse populations. Being Latinx, I understand how important it is for many clients to have access to clinicians with a similar cultural background. I enjoy participating in trainings and seminars that foster my growth as a therapist in areas that are of interest to me. I have 3 years of coursework and training in depth psychology (psychodynamic and psychoanalytic methods) during my time in a doctorate program at Pacifica Graduate Institute and have taken multiple trainings through the San Francisco Jung Institute. Over the past year I have completed trainings in the Emotional Freedom Technique using acupressure points to address compulsive behaviors, phobias, and mood regulation and I plan to continue with these trainings to better address trauma-related issues as well. I continuously work on my skills in Sandtray therapy, began learning more about Polyvagal theory and techniques for mood regulation. I enjoy any trainings that focus on decolonization of the mental health system to better treat people of color, topics surrounding body positivity, sexuality and sex positive approaches, as well as gender identity. I truly enjoy learning and evolving my craft. Current trainings I am enrolled in include additional decolonization work in mental health and I am currently working towards my trauma-conscious yoga certification and EMDR certification. I believe in using art, yoga, meditation, dream analysis, breath work, and sandtray in addition to traditional talk therapy. I feel that participation in regular consultation is important as well as participation in my own personal therapy to reduce the risk of countertransference i.e. projecting my own issues onto my clients. Know that our work together will be collaborative and I welcome feedback from my clients to ensure our work together is most beneficial to you. This does not mean that I will not challenge and encourage you to try new ways of thinking but I will adjust the therapy if certain techniques do no prove beneficial. I look forward to hearing from you!
