I work with clients who are experiencing challenges in their personal lives resulting in anxiety and depression or an inability to identify and express their wants and needs openly and honestly. I also work with clients who have experienced grief and loss or a traumatic event.

Most clients seek therapy because they want something to change in their lives so that they can live a much more fulfilling life. I like to believe that I have the skills and techniques that will help them accomplish their goal(s).

I have a doctoral degree in Human Services/Clinical Social Work from Walden University and a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. My undergraduate degree is in Child Development and Family Life also from Indiana State University.

I have worked as a social worker for many years in child welfare and I have worked as a counselor in schools and in private practice. In addition, I have also been an educator, teaching at universities and at a community college. As you can see, my professional journey has always been in the social and behavioral sciences. I believe what drew me to the helping profession were some of the challenges I faced throughout my journey in life. I can now say that I have grown personally and professionally as a result of those challenges.

The type of therapeutic modalities I use with clients will depend on the client and the issues presented. I do not believe in a “one size fits all.” I do favor techniques and skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and of course, Person-Centered Therapy.

I take a non-judgmental approach to therapy and consider myself a good listener. I enjoy helping clients gain insight. I also enjoy it when I see clients motivated to make changes in their lives for the better.

Since I see clients virtually, I am able to accept clients throughout the state of North Carolina.
