About Angela Massey, LMHC

Maybe you’re struggling with anxious thoughts, and worry has a hold on you. Or perhaps you just don’t feel like yourself. Or maybe you need help navigating a particularly challenging season, a past traumatic experience, or the struggles of being Black and Brown in America. Whatever it is, please know you don’t have to do this alone. I know as humans there are times in our lives when we can benefit from extra help. I also know from personal experience how challenging it can be to ask for help. Letting someone into the most intimate parts of your life can be very uncomfortable, but none of us are meant to journey this life alone.

I work with adults who are experiencing a range of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, anger, grief, and trauma. I also help address stressors related to work, family and relationships and explore events that have had an impact on your life. My aim is to provide you with the space to be heard and accepted, the awareness to understand yourself better, and the tools to make any necessary changes, to help improve your quality of life. I do this by using a combination of brain and body-based, and cognitive behavioral therapies. This helps you create better coping skills, healthier behaviors, and more productive patterns of thinking, all while learning to feel more at home in your body.

As a black woman, I’m committed to addressing issues affecting Black and Latinx people and to improving mental health in our communities. I’ll encourage you to show up as your authentic self, because growth begins to happen when we embrace all parts of who we are. In turn, I will acknowledge, affirm, and embrace all your identities.

I know starting therapy can be overwhelming and you may have questions. To help you get started I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit. I’m licensed in New York State and can work with individuals who are located throughout New York via telehealth.
